Spartan Detective Agency, Inc. has been serving the
public since 1970. We cover all areas of investigation
and have experienced specialists ready to serve you.
Now that we have entered the new millennium and
cyberspace has become such a big part of our daily
lives, we at Spartan Detective Agency, Inc. believe
that quality of service is more important than
ever. From our beginning Spartan Detective Agency,
Inc. has endeavored to provide only high quality
services for clients in all areas of Investigation. We
understand the need for accurate and dependable
service and that is what we provide. So we ask, what

About
the Owner
I am Michael R. Murphy, Sr. and I was born in
Spartanburg, South Carolina on July 5th, 1940. I entered the U.S.
Navy Reserve in November 1957 and graduated from Spartanburg High
School in the spring of 1958. I entered active duty with the U.S.
Navy in November of 1958. After serving two-years active duty and
three-years of reserve in the construction battalion (CB's), I
began a career in the automotive industry. From 1963, I worked as
a front end and frame mechanic for the local Ford dealerships and
during my tenure there, I became a certified welder.
In January of 1970, I began doing investigation under the name
Spartan and soon formed Spartan Security. With
Spartan Security, I provided quality guard service and patrol as
well as insightful private investigative services. In 1974, I
purchased the Sonitrol franchise rights for Spartanburg and
Cherokee Counties and formed Sonitrol of Spartanburg, Inc. In
1978, I decided to sell the guard and patrol portion of Spartan
Security only retaining a 10% ownership in that company. I
however kept the investigative portion of the company and renamed
it Spartan Detective Agency, Inc. Later in 1979, I purchased
Metro Answering Service that later became known as Professional
Answering Service. In addition, in 1979, I purchased the Sonitrol
franchise rights for Richland and Lexington Counties to form
Sonitrol of Columbia.
For over fifteen years, I concentrated my efforts on just these
businesses. Then in 1995 I went on to start a new guard company
named United Security Agency. With this company, I also provided
quality guard service and patrol. In 1998, I sold both Sonitrol
of Spartanburg and Sonitrol of Columbia and in 2000, I sold
United Security Agency. Now, in 2006, I still own and operate
Spartan Detective Agency, Inc. and I am still going strong.
